Take time to read Tom Piazza's latest novel "City of Refuge," set in New Orleans during and after Katrina.
Without a bit of pedantry or preaching, the novel changed many of my impressions.
Also, "Babylon Rolling" by Amanda Boyden (I think) gives a non - New Orlean context -- but it is not preachy either. This writer teaches writing in NO.
Thanks for these additional texts! You may remember that I moved to Southern Mississippi less than a year after the hurricanes hit. It was a strange time to be in the Deep South -- well, stranger than usual, anyway -- and many of my students had stories about their time surviving the storms.
